Student Lock-in this Friday!

This weekend is the Student Lock-In! If you are a current Rhema student, come to the NRC this Friday, February 10, for a fun night of:

GAMES, MOVIES, AND TONS OF FUN!

You will be on either Team Dusty or Team Christy to battle it out over:

  • Dodgeball
  • Foursquare
  • Sardines
  • Tic Tac Toe (relay style)
  • Giant piñata

I could keep going, but trust me! It’s going to be fun! Did I mention there will also be table top games such as UNO? (Are you ready for Friday to be here yet?)

Dusty is making homemade chili for dinner, and there will be biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

The student life crew is asking for students to bring snacks and drinks for the rest of the night.

Also, you will need to bring socks if you want to skate (Oh yeah! Did I mention we’ll be skating?), and a pillow/blanket for the movie area.

We hope to see you this Friday! It will be a great way to make new friends, have some fun, and kick off the weekend.

P.S. For the older Rhema students, there will be coffee. If you can make it all night, that’s okay.  Join us for as long as possible!

26

My birthday was awesome!

I received so many sweet Facebook posts, messages, texts, and phone calls.

I talked with my family and even got to FaceTime with one of my best friends.

The weekend as a whole was a whirlwind of fun from start to finish.

Here are the highlights:

  • Thrift store shopping
  • Barnes and Noble
  • Barbecue
  • Finding Dory
  • 2 get togethers
  • Fireworks
  • Reading
  • Coffee
  • In PJs till lunchtime

I basically partied like a rockstar all weekend.

And while I’m thankful for good work, getting back into my routine will be hard tomorrow.

Now, it’s time for this 26 year old to go to bed!

Remember: the new blog schedule is Monday and Friday.

Let me know if you have any topics you’d like me to discuss more in-depth.

Almost 26

My birthday (and America’s birthday) is almost here!

Hard to believe that my daily blogging commitment is coming to and end.

I will definitely keep up my blogging, but not everyday.

Right now my plan is to blog on Mondays and Fridays. The days are subject to change (the objective is biweekly posts).

This is just my preliminary planning because birthdays have always been mile markers for me.

This upcoming year I really want to become a more focused writer.

Daily blogging was only step one for me. I needed to get in the habit of writing everyday.

Now I want to get better at taking ideas and fully developing them.

I am excited! And I hope you’ll stick around through the next year. It’s going to be fun.

3 Awesome Things

Three awesome things happened today.

1. I picked up a writing project!

This project entails helping a doctorate student in a chemical engineering program put words to his research.  Don’t be surprised if I end up writing a post or two about what I’m learning.

2. I watched The Shallows in theaters.

At first, I wasn’t going to because I was afraid the movie would not be all that great.

Now, I’m glad that I did! It was epic and suspenseful and awesome.

The biggest recurring thought as I watched: Wow. Not sure I would be smart enough to outsmart a shark.

3. I saw the COOLEST truck ever in the Dollar Tree parking lot.

A Star Wars truck?!?!

I had a geek out moment…I might have contemplated stealing this truck….

Check out the light saber on the gun rack.

I circled this truck at least 5 times. I’ve never seen anything quite like this and now it has me thinking about making a comic book car.

Well, I’m headed toward bed. It’s been a great day.

Game Night

Here is a great recipe for fun:

  • Friends
  • Dr. Pepper
  • BLTs
  • Clue

Granted, I’m not the greatest at Clue, but it was fun to hang out.

We laughed a lot.

We munched on barbecue chips (solving murders makes you hungry.)

Friendship is awesome.

Now I’m headed towards bed because it’s after midnight and I desperately want to finish the last 4-5 chapters of my novel.

500 Questions

Every once in a while, a trivia show  comes on that’s really good.

500 Questions did not disappoint me.

The goal is simple: Answer 500 questions and keep from getting knocked out of the game during battle rounds by your opponent.

If you lose in a battle (or can’t clear the board before the next battle) your opponent takes your spot and continues the game where you left off.

The rules are a bit more complex than this explanation, but I didn’t want to bore you.

For trivia nerds, I recommend this show.

Memorial Day 2016

This Memorial Day was awesome.

Here are the highlights:

  • Slept in
  • Hung out with 2 of my friends at the mall and their house
  • Ate Chick-fil-A
  • Had my first visitor over at my new place
  • Watched a movie
  • Ate pizza
  • Laughed a lot
  • Finished a book

The day was quite restful.

I’m so thankful for servicemen–the fallen heroes, the veterans, and those who are active duty–because the life I enjoy wouldn’t be possible without their sacrifices.

Did I mention my sister Sofia turned 12?

Wow…

I’m thankful for Sofia’s sweet spirit and for how she so willingly embraced me as her big sister 5 years ago.

Her friendship and love mean a lot to me.

She even laughs at my jokes sometimes! (Wink, wink)

Happy Birthday, Sof!

Saturday Birthday Fun

It’s been an awesome day!

I was invited to a birthday party, so I’ve spent the day surrounded by kids.

My friend Evie (Nina’s daughter) turned 6.

Sophia (Evie’s older sister) and I filled up water balloons and then we helped Evie with her birthday presents.

Now all the kids are playing while the grown ups talk (and grill hot dogs).

It feels good to spend the day outside and with friends.

Summer Reading

It’s summer reading time!

My friend Mary gave me 2 sacks full of novels (and a few nonfiction books as well) so I am ready for some serious fun reading.

Even when I wasn’t a student, I mostly read fiction in the summer. There’s something about summer that makes me not want to read anything heavy.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

I thought it would be fun to get some recommendations (you know, in case I’m able to finish all the books on my bottom book shelf).

  1. What are some books on your summer reading list?
  2. Any of them graphic novels? I’m trying to give that genre a chance, so I’ve read a couple this year.
  3. What about nonfiction? Have any good nonfiction reads you think I should throw on my summer reading list?
  4. Any of your favorite authors releasing books this summer? Any that you’ve already pre-ordered?
  5. Are you participating in the local library’s summer reading program?
